Catching Up

I tend to do most of my posting at work, and recently it has been so busy, I’ve ended up with a few half written posts that never got completed. So, here’s a little catchup.

If you didn't get a chance to go to the Sufjan Stevens concert at the Town Hall in NY, fret not - a complete live recording here.

The Bluetones are out with a new album this month – treading a similar vein to previous albums, the self-titled release sees the Hounslow group delivering their brand of catchy, Byrdsian indie tunes and twee self depricating lyrics. Whilst I’m not mad about the first single off the album, the first track on the album; Surrendered is a cracker in my books. I’ve also posted Fade In/Fade Out which was written for David Walliams of Little Britain fame in response to his swimming the Channel.

2006 does seem to be the year of singer-songwriters climbing back out the woodwork; sounding somewhat like an english Bright Eyes, The Chronicles Of A Bohemian Teenager is the debut album from Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly - nom-de-plume of the prodigious talent that is 20 y.o. Sam Duckworth. It finds Sam tackling the classicism of folk music and splicing it with modern technology and a youth’s eye view of contemporary Britain. The album's an utterly captivating listen, seldom doing what’s expected of the genre and continually giving way to extremely pleasant surprises.

Blur’s frontman Damon Alburn is out with a new band called The Good, The Bad and The Queen with Clash bassist Paul Simonon as well as members of the Verve. The single Herculean will be released as a CD and 7-inch on October 30, 2006 "deleted the same day.

Sounding like a cross between Brett Anderson and early Pet Shop Boys, Biker Boy have released a track that I can’t decide whether I like or not. What do you think of You Got Me Wrong?

Lastly, the campaign is to get The Hoff (aka David Hasselhoff) to number one here in the UK with his take on the Ted Mulry Gang track Jump Into My Car proved relatively successful, resulting in a number 3 chart position. Given the fact that every download/disc bought will get DH one step closer to staying in the top 3, I’m not going to post the track – instead, I’m posting one of his classic anthems – Looking For Freedom – where he tries to do his best Bruce Springsteen but comes across all Neil Diamond.
