Liza's Da Bomb

A post on another site on the weekend reminded me of the fabulousness that was (is?) Liza Minelli – whilst she’s universally acclaimed for the Liza With A Z era, I still have a soft spot for her Pet Shop Boys collaborations. It seemed like pretty much the campest idea ever at the time: Pet Shop Boys, the masters of pop artifice, teaming up with Broadway legend and commercial has-been Liza Minnelli in a cross-generational gay icon culture clash.

Whilst being bit of a mixed bag, Results does feature some fabulous (can you think of a better word) moments; arranging Sondheim’s Losing My Mind as a hi-nrg track and conversely, the Boys’ Rent as a show tune complete with full orchestra were both acts of genius, and Don’t Drop Bombs is camp as a row of tents and, yes, fabulous.
