God does not love Silvia

So, inspite of all the hype and noise, Silvia Night did not make it through to the Eurovison finals. And (gasp!) Lithuania did. In the UK, we’ve long joked about the block voting that seems to occur within Eastern Europe, and this is clearly a result, as frankly, the song is crap.

I watched Silvia’s performance and I don’t think she did herself any favours; it was a bit too camp and she came across as a bit pretentious and squeaky. I few less Aqua impressions and a bit more vocal training (oh, and no slagging off the host country – even in jest – humour does not travel well) and we could have been seeing on her Saturday.

Um, Silvia's just a character played by an actress/singer.

I'm sure that Iceland knew the song wasn't going to win. I think the whole point was just that it would be fun and funny to send her as Iceland's entry into the competition. I think it's pretty hysterical.

Forgot to add that the information isn't really some huge secret. If anyone had gone online to look up info on the contestants, they would've figured the whole thing out.

Indeed. Hence my sentence; "humour does not travel well".

I doubt Iceland would have forked out lots of money with the expectation for her to get booted out at the semis - I'm guess they would have hoped that the 'novelty' factor would have been understood - it wasn't.

A cleverer P.R would have judged the mood, and played the character accordingly - unless the whole entry expense was actually a tax-deductable exercise. :-)
